I’d seen people mention The Big Greek Cafe on Facebook but it wasn’t until yesterday that we had a chance to swing by after doing some grocery shopping at the nearby Wegmans.
And, as it turns out, it’s $7 gyros on Wednesday too! (normally $10.95)
The Big Greek Cafe is a local chain with a bunch of locations (9!) all throughout the local Maryland region. And, after eating there, I can see why it’s so popular.
When you walk in, you order at the counter and then find a spot to sit. They’ll find you with your order, the place isn’t too big.
Since it was $7 gyros, my lovely wife and I went with two of them plus the trio dip sampler (for us but also for our daughter who was off daycare). All total, the bill came out to $31.80, with the trio dip sampler costing more than both gyros because of the Wednesday deal!
First, our order came out in what felt like five minutes. It was piping hot, fast, and I was honestly really surprised how quickly it came out. They were busy too, probably because of the special, but they were fast throughout.
Next, the wrapper looks oily in the photo but the gyros weren’t. Gyros came with a banana pepper and a cube of feta. I was surprised that it didn’t come with lettuce (though there isn’t any in the picture on the menu) but it did have red onions and tomatoes.
From first bite to last, the pita held up and never got soggy or fell apart. I was a little concerned when I first saw the wrapper but it wasn’t an issue. Plenty of meat from start to finish, not bunched up.
For the trio dip platter, we went with hummus, red pepper hummus, and tzatziki. Their tzatziki is great, though be sure you’re a fan of garlic, and their hummuses were delicious as well.
Finally, during a slow moment (I mean just a few minutes), the guy who checked us out walked around and checked on diners. It’s a nice touch.
Count us as fans, we’ll be back!
